Whether it’s a parade, ceremony or memorial service, public expressions of gratitude help keep veterans’ stories alive and foster a community spirit of appreciation. It’s also a way for us to join in collective gratitude for the courage, resilience and sacrifice they have made.
This November, Allen Parish residents will have the opportunity to honor their local veterans when the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Wall and Cost of Freedom Memorial stops in Louisiana at Coushatta Casino Resort. This mobile tribute features an 80 percent replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC and will be open free to the public Nov. 3-7.
Many of our departed military members continue to serve their communities long after leaving active duty, contributing their leadership, resilience and commitment as teachers, healthcare providers, business owners, first responders and community leaders. Honoring their contributions on Veterans Day helps remind all of us of the value they bring to our lives and society, extending far beyond their time in uniform.
Creating an enduring memorial to your cherished veteran can be a meaningful experience for you and your loved ones. A memorial garden, for example, can be a place of reflection and remembrance for years to come. It is also an ideal setting for a casual gathering where you can celebrate your loved one’s life with family and friends. You may choose to host a potluck, inviting your guests to bring dishes that were their loved ones’ favorites. You can then gather around the table and share memories in a comfortable, welcoming environment.
