A hero is defined as an ordinary person who performs extraordinary deeds. This is the message behind Metallica’s song hero of the day, which was inspired by the Aurora theater shooting and those who saved others’ lives. The music video for the track was directed by Anton Corbijn, and follows a drug-addled youth who spends the day watching television. Each program he watches features some aspect of Metallica, including a Western movie starring Kirk Hammett and Jason Newsted, a boxing match featuring Hetfield as the coach, and a game show where Hetfield and Lars Ulrich are the contestants. The track is included on the band’s Load (Remastered) reissue, which is out today.
